UC Berkeley Nobel Stolen and Recovered

10Mar07

A UC Berkeley senior has been arrested for the `felony grand theft’ of Ernest Lawrence’s Nobel Prize in physics, the university’s first such prize. The student apparently told police that he took the medal “on a whim.”

I imagine Stanford undergrads are full of snarky comments regarding this as many probably initially suspected that the theft was another cross-Bay prank between the rival universities.

I wonder if the arrested student got a chance to use his loot to snag an even more coveted gem: a place to park one’s car.

“I imagine Stanford undergrads are full of snarky comments regarding this as many probably initially suspected that the theft was another cross-Bay prank between the rival universities.”

Why would Stanford students go all that way to steal a dusty old Nobel, when there are so many nice shiney new ones sitting around at Stanford?
